In Primary, children learn about the world whilst becoming increasingly independent, curious and aware. Complexities become opportunities for exploration, and challenges are approached as adventures to be understood and resolved, step by step.

School becomes a place where we ask questions, make connections and grow together: with small class sizes, every child is welcomed and supported on their cognitive, emotional and social journey.

The educational model

Our model combines active learning and an interdisciplinary approach. Pupils play an active part in class life: they collaborate, experiment and explore through lessons, workshops, STEAM activities, educational robotics and research projects.

Curiosity is the driving force. The desire to explore, learn and ask questions lays solid foundations for lifelong learning.

Responsibility and independence are developed through specific roles: pupils act as Helpers and Eco Helpers, looking after the communal areas and developing an awareness of sustainability in their day-to-day lives.

School life fosters collaboration and team spirit through the Houses system (Mars, Jupiter and Saturn), which involves pupils in projects, challenges and shared activities.

The transition between the different school levels takes place gradually and with support, ensuring stability and peace of mind throughout the child’s development.

Educational model

The Curriculum

The curriculum combines the National Guidelines with the Cambridge International programme, offering a comprehensive and recognised bilingual education. Knowledge grows over time, deepens and is transformed into real skills.

The Cambridge curriculum includes English as a Second Language and, in Years 4 and 5, Global Perspectives: a programme that develops critical thinking, research skills and the ability to analyse global issues from different perspectives.

Genuine, structured bilingualism

In Primary, bilingualism takes on a structured form. English becomes an everyday skill: pupils learn to read, write and communicate with increasing confidence.

Qualified native-speaking teachers guide students using an authentic and immersive approach. Language is a living tool: it is used to explore science, art, literature and subject-specific content in a natural and engaging way.

Respect for the structures of both languages ensures a competent and informed use of each.

Cambridge Certifications

Throughout the course, students sit the Cambridge qualifications, which are recognised internationally. Preparation is integrated into the curriculum: progressive courses tailored to age and level, with communicative materials incorporated into teaching.

Nutritional education

For us, lunchtime is an educational and social experience. We promote knowledge of healthy eating, food awareness and the reduction of food waste, actively involving children and their families.

Taste Club

A real source of pride for our school: the Taste Club is a group of parents involved in evaluating school meals by tasting them.

Becoming Education offers training on healthy eating to parents who wish to play an active role. We welcome them as partners in the children’s wellbeing.

02 What is the English Curriculum and how is it applied at the English Primary School?

The English Primary School is an accredited Cambridge International School, the only one in Modena to offer a programme that integrates the Italian National Guidelines with an international curriculum. Our curriculum is aligned with the English National Curriculum and includes 11 hours per week of subjects taught entirely in English by qualified native-speaking teachers.

03 Which subjects are taught in English and which in Italian?

At the English Primary School, bilingualism is structured: the curriculum includes 11 hours per week of subjects taught in English by qualified native-speaking teachers. Subjects such as Science (STEAM), Geography, Art, and Narrative are taught in English. These subjects do not repeat topics covered in Italian but provide an exploration and expansion of them through the second language.

04 Are international language certifications provided?

Yes, at the English Primary School, students sit for the Cambridge Young Learners qualifications (Starters, Movers, Flyers) and KET (A2 Key). This is a progressive programme that develops communication skills and offers international recognition of the progress made.

05 What role do workshops, STEAM, or hands-on activities play?

Hands-on activities are central: we have workshops for art, science, music, and spaces for coding and educational robotics. Technology is used as a mindful tool for knowledge and as a “cognitive accelerator” for research and design.

06 How are study methods and independence supported?

Independence is a pillar of our model. Students develop responsibility through concrete roles such as Helpers and Eco Helpers. Study methods emerge naturally through the inquiry-based approach, where students learn to organize their research and construct personal meaning.

07 What is the Houses system at the English Primary School?

The Houses system is an initiative designed to foster collaboration and team spirit among students of different ages. Every pupil at the English Primary School belongs to one of three Houses: Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. Throughout the school year, the Houses involve children in shared projects, challenges, and collective activities, encouraging a sense of belonging and responsibility toward their group.

08 How is student progress assessed?

We use formative assessment as a constant monitoring tool, focusing on individual progress and the evolution of skills rather than just a final grade. Students also take an active role through self-assessment practices to make them aware of their own learning style.

09 How are parents informed about school progress?

Communication is constant and includes regular one-to-one sessions, class meetings, and the sharing of documentation regarding the children’s work. Twice a year, in February and June, reports are provided, offering an analytical and descriptive judgment of the curriculum and the development of soft skills.

10 What is the school daily schedule?

Entrance at the English Primary School is scheduled between 8:00 AM and 8:15 AM, with lessons and workshops ending at 4:30 PM. The day is punctuated by individual and group work sessions, a morning break (10:30-11:00 AM), and a lunch and playtime break (1:00-2:00 PM). To meet family needs, pre-school services are available starting at 7:30 AM and After School Clubs until 6:30 PM.
